Job Description: | The School Social Worker is the link between home, school, and the community in promoting our students’ overall academic, personal, and social wellbeing. Work collaboratively with other members of the professional staff in order to achieve district and building goals. Conduct biopsychosocial assessments to inform educational planning and the need for comprehensive service provision. Understand theories of normal and exceptional development, as well as their application to all students. Utilize family strengths and structures to encourage their involvement in and support of their children’s education and well-being. Understand topics of diversity to plan for the unique educational needs of culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Offer professional learning to teachers to enhance their knowledge of social/emotional and behavioral needs and their impact on academic success. Assist teachers with classroom management, including the implementation of behavior management and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). Support the building intervention team to address social/emotional, and behavior skill deficits. Support restorative practices. Provide both group and individual based psychological counseling services to students. Implement prevention programs, according to data, for topics such as but not limited to school violence, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, conflict resolution, child abuse, positive self-image, social skills, and character education. Provide crisis intervention, as needed. Form strong collaborative relationships with community agencies and coordinate systems of care to provide wrap-around services, making referrals to such community based agencies as necessary. Attend and actively participate in CSE, CPSE and Section 504 Accommodation Team meetings. Maintain case records and protect confidentiality. Monitor and effectively communicate with staff and parents about student progress. Participate in activities that will lead to continued professional growth. Perform other duties as assigned by administration and/or the superintendent of schools. |
Required Qualifications: | Holds, at a minimum, a provisional certification in New York State as a School Social Worker. Possess comprehensive knowledge and experience pertaining to assessment. Is skilled at networking and partnering with community based organizations. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in data driven evidence based practices and interventions. Demonstrates integrity, honesty, a lifelong commitment to learning, as well as strong written and oral communication skills. Is skilled at establishing positive working relationships. Alternatives to the above qualifications may be made as the Superintendent and Board of Education find appropriate. |
Rate of Pay: | $43,000-$65,000 |
