This interactive workshop will incorporate experiential exercises, large-group discussion and dialogue in dyads and small groups, video, and a research update. Participants will reflect upon the influence of socio-cultural messages regarding sexual orientation and gender identity diversity on our social work practice. They will also learn about the Buffalo Public Schools' 2015 Youth Risk Behavior Survey's findings on self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQQ) youth in Buffalo and apply intersectionality with a trauma-informed and human rights perspective to social work practice with LGBTQQ youth and their families.

Objectives:

-Recognize the ever-evolving terminology relevant for engaging with LGBTQQ youth.
-Articulate the challenges facing LGBTQQ youth in the Buffalo Public Schools per the 2015 Youth Risk Behavior Survey.
-Apply intersectionality and a trauma-informed and human rights perspective to social work practice with LGBTQ youths and their families.
