Information for Newly Accepted Students

Our main office in 685 Baldy Hall, North Campus

Thank you for paying your deposit and deciding to attend UB for graduate school! Here you will find specific information on what you need to know about becoming a UB social work student. Former UB students may be able to skip a few steps, as they were previously completed.

Step 1: Confirm Your Acceptance and Obtain Your Person Number, UBIT Name and Password

If you have not already confirmed your acceptance, you must log back into your application and click "Confirm Acceptance." Go back to your online application and click on "Return to Your Saved Application." Once you confirm your acceptance, you will be able to view your person number and UBIT name. Your single use password and instructions for changing it will be emailed to you within a few days of confirmation.

Step 2: Submit Your Student Health Form

Students are required to submit a student health form. In accordance with New York State Public Health Law, UB requires that all students (undergraduate, graduate, professional) born on or after Jan. 1, 1957 provide proof of immunity against measles, mumps and rubella. The state also requires that all students receive information about meningococcal disease and have made an informed decision about whether or not to receive immunization against meningococcal disease. UB students will not be allowed to register for classes until they have fulfilled these requirements.

You will not be permitted to register for classes until your completed health form is submitted to Health Services.

Submit your completed health form to Health Services, Michael Hall, University at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY 14214-3077 or fax to 716-829-2564.

Step 3: Register for Classes

Instructions for what courses you register for were included in your confirmation letter. If you have any questions regarding registration please contact our Registrar at 716-645-1273 or e-mail swinfo@buffalo.edu.

Step 4: Get Your UB Card

Students are required to obtain a student ID card (UB Card). The cost of the card is $20, which will be charged to your University account and your UB Card will be mailed directly to you. Each request will be confirmed by verifying course registration records. This card is not meant to be a substitute for a traditional UB Card; it is intended to verify that you are a member of the extended University community. If in the future you come to campus to continue your studies or research then you must obtain the traditional photo UB Card. You will be able to exchange this card towards the purchase of a traditional UB Card.

You must be registered for classes before you can obtain your UB Card.

Step 5: Set Up UB Email Account and Access Computing Resources

Once you have your UBIT name, person number and password you must go to Active Your UBITName website to set up your UB email account and gain access to UB computing resources.

Important Field Education Info

All full-time MSW students must complete the application to field forms immediatly.
