UB schools among best in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools rankings

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Several schools within the University at Buffalo, New York’s flagship, are ranked among the top nationwide in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools rankings, released this morning.

The School of Public Health and Health Professions ranked No. 42 nationally. Among public universities nationwide, the school is No. 26. Within the State University of New York, UB is the No. 1 public health school. Programs within the school ranked nationally, among both public and private universities, include occupational therapy (42) and physical therapy (79).

UB’s Graduate School of Education came in at No. 54 nationwide. Among public universities nationally, the school is No. 43. UB is the No. 1 education school among public universities in New York.

UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences ranked No. 57 in the country. Among public universities nationwide, the school is No. 31. UB is the No. 1 engineering school among public universities in New York.

Programs within the engineering school ranked nationwide, among both public and private universities, include aerospace (35), biomedical (63), chemical (34), civil (33), computer engineering (58), computer science (64), electrical (56), environmental (60), industrial (28), materials (63) and mechanical (55).

The School of Management ranked No. 79 nationally. Among public universities nationally, the school is No. 41. Within the State University of New York, UB is the No. 1 ranked business school.

The School of Law moved up 14 places to No. 94 nationwide. Among public universities nationwide, the school ranks No. 50. UB is the No. 1 law school among public universities in New York.

The Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences moved up from Tier 3 to Tier 2 for both research and primary care. (US News ranks medical schools in four tiers; Tier 1 is the highest and Tier 4 is the lowest.)

The Jacobs School was one of 30 public medical schools, and the only public medical school in New York, to rank Tier 2 or better in both categories.

The School of Nursing’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program ranked No. 43 in the country. Among public universities nationwide, the program ranked No. 31. It is the No. 1 ranked DNP program among public universities in New York. The nursing school’s anesthesia program was ranked No. 33 nationally among both public and private universities.

In addition, the following UB’s graduate programs are ranked:

  • Audiology – No. 29 nationwide, No. 23 among public universities nationwide, and No. 1 among public universities in New York.
  • Library and information sciences – No. 24 nationwide, No. 21 among public universities nationwide, and No. 1 among public universities in New York.
  • Economics – No. 81 nationwide, and No. 47 among public universities nationwide.
  • English – No. 40 nationwide, No. 21 among public universities nationwide, and No. 1 within the State University of New York.
  • History – No. 75 nationwide, and No. 46 among public universities nationwide.
  • Political science – No. 74 nationwide, and No. 46 among public universities nationwide.
  • Psychology – No. 71 nationwide, and No. 40 among public universities nationwide.
  • Sociology – No. 71 nationwide, and No. 46 among public universities nationwide.
  • Speech language pathology – No. 48 nationwide, No. 38 among public universities nationwide, and No. 1 among public universities in New York.

While not all graduate programs in the humanities, social sciences, sciences and health sciences were considered by U.S. News this year, numerous UB programs are ranked among the best in the nation. Among them:

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences was ranked last year among the top 20 in the country, coming in at No. 19 nationwide, No. 18 among public universities nationwide, and No. 1 in New York.

Also last year, the School of Social Work was ranked No. 24 nationally, No. 13 among public universities nationwide, and No. 1 among public universities in New York.
