March is Social Work Month, a time designated by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) to celebrate the positive impact that social workers make every day through their work.
This year’s theme, Compassion + Action, acknowledges why many social workers join the profession in the first place: a desire to put empathy into action by supporting individuals, advocating for systemic change and uplifting the dignity and worth of humankind.
“Social Work Month is a chance to pause and reflect on the critical importance of our work as practitioners, researchers and advocates,” says Keith A. Alford, dean of the University at Buffalo School of Social Work. “At a time when our profession is immensely needed to uplift the many populations we serve, I urge you to stay the course, continue to live by our social work values — and take some time for self-care.”
All month long, the UB School of Social Work will provide opportunities for students, alumni, faculty and staff to come together. Join us during Social Work Month, and keep tabs on everything happening in the school on our events calendar.
