| Job Description: | Family Service Society is interviewing for a part-time (15 hours/ week) contractual 10 month NYS Licensed Mental Health Therapist (LMSW, LMHC, LCSW, LCAT, or LMFT) to work with head start children, families and staff contingent on receipt of Head Start contract with the possibility of 10 additional hours/week in other programs. Professional Licensure must be in good standing and current. This position includes direct counseling and mental health education services to children, families and staff at Pro Action Head Start Programs throughout Steuben County NY. Mental Health Therapist will help foster the children’s wellness and mental health, as well as their social and emotional well-being. Therapist must: • Provide support and mental health education for effective classroom management and positive learning environments; supportive teacher practices; and, strategies for supporting children with challenging behaviors and other social, emotional, and mental health concerns; • Develop strategies that include using classroom observations and consultations to address teacher and individual child needs and creating physical and cultural environments that promote positive mental health and social and emotional functioning • Secure mental health consultation services on a schedule of sufficient and consistent frequency to partner with staff and families in a timely and effective manner; • Obtain parental consent for mental health consultation services at enrollment and collaborate with parents to help them understand wellness including mental health; and, • Build community partnerships to facilitate access to additional mental health resources and services, as needed. • Implement policies to limit child suspension and prohibit expulsion. Therapist will need to utilize their experience, education, age-specific knowledge, and cultural competence to assist children and families in achieving positive and successful outcomes. Clinical experience providing specialized therapy services to children and knowledge of Conscious Discipline philosophy is highly desirable, good written and verbal communication skills, positive solution-focused attitude, excellent teamwork, and timely and thorough documentation of services are required.
