Job Description: The University at Buffalo Regional Institute (UBRI), a research and policy center at the School of Architecture and Planning, is seeking students to assist on various research and community engagement projects occurring in the Buffalo region over the summer of 2019. The position is open to undergraduate, graduate, and recently graduated students of all majors and academic backgrounds. Student assistants will work with UBRI staff to complete the tasks listed below: --Assist with the design and implementation of public engagement activities, including small-scale neighborhood workshops, focus groups, public meetings, youth-based engagements, flyer distribution and tabling at events or local gathering places --Collect relevant data and information in support of analysis related to population demographics, economic development, transportation, housing, land use, health and public policy --Document research and community engagement findings with written summaries that may include charts, graphs, and maps
Required Qualifications: --Academic or other experience relevant to the position, including interest and knowledge of community engagement, research methods, and urban planning --Excellent writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills; strong attention to detail --Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office and Android OS tablets --Experience interacting with people of diverse or underrepresented racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds --Ability and willingness to travel to locations around the Buffalo Niagara region during the day, in the evening, and on weekends to talk to people at events and meetings.
Preferred Qualifications: --Proficiency in languages other than English is desired, but not required
Rate of Pay: 20-40 hours per week at $15 per hour
