Job Description: Supervised by the Director of Programs and Services, the Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the NAMI-NYC Helpline, including managing volunteers and referrals within the new Expedited Engagement Program, as well as traditional referral processes and programs. Building upon the current structure of our Helpline, our unique referral programs enable NAMI-NYC to assume the responsibility of proactively reaching out to individuals living with mental illness, family members, and caregivers in need of mental health resources, dramatically shortening the amount of time it takes for them to connect with and benefit from our programs and services. Our referral programs also enable NAMI-NYC to connect with and serve individuals who would otherwise never have the opportunity to benefit from our array of programs and services. Referrals are made by a wide array of community mental health agencies, hospitals, and private practices. The Engagement Coordinator will work collaboratively with the entire Services Team, as well as the agency as a whole. Position Title: Engagement Coordinator Reports to: Director of programs and Services Hours: 40 hours per week, 10am-6pm Monday through Friday, evening and weekend hours as needed or requested by supervisor Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Expedited Engagement and other Referral Services: NAMI-NYC utilizes a variety of referral programs designed to assist those in need to easily access the array of NAMI-NYC programs and services. ● Determine the staff member or volunteer most appropriate to follow-up with the Expedited Engagement referrals and assign cases, ensuring a timely call within two business days. ● Regularly report results of client contacts to Manager of Support Programs and to referral sources as directed, ensuring continuity of care ● Maintain comprehensive digital records and report outcomes of provider referrals to the Manager of Support programs ● Regularly review new volunteer applications and identify potential volunteers for the Helpline ● Deliver trainings to providers, the general public, and other stakeholders Helpline: the NAMI-NYC Helpline is staffed by trained volunteers who are living with mental illness and/or a family member. The Helpline provides callers with connections to essential mental health referrals, advice on navigating the system, peer support, and an introduction to NAMI-NYC’s programs and services. The Engagement Coordinator will serve as a working Helpline operator, fielding calls and logging outcomes in our database. ● Train, schedule, and provide day-to-day oversight of Helpline volunteers ● Oversee and process all daily, weekly, and monthly data collected through Helpline communications using web-based record keeping software ● Coordinate the provision of all referrals to NAMI-NYC programs and services as well as to external resources, for medical, legal, employment, housing, and other support, as appropriate. ● In collaboration with the Director of Programs and Services and the Manager of Support Programs, the Engagement Coordinator will develop and implement an ongoing training curricula for all Helpline volunteers. ● ensure NAMI-NYC’s Helpline is fully and appropriately staffed during the hours of operation. Qualifications ● Basic knowledge of and experience with mental illness, recovery, and the mental health system – either personally or through a family member ● Minimum bachelor’s degree and three years’ experience working in the mental health field. ● Experience working on a hotline or Helpline preferred ● Experience supervising individuals/volunteers ● Possesses business acumen ● Respect and compassion for individuals and families affected by mental illness. ● Ability to work effectively with diverse populations with a high level of integrity, diplomacy, and initiative ● Very proficient in the use of personal computers, Google Apps and Microsoft applications. Knowledge of electronic record keeping systems a plus. ● Detail-oriented with strong administrative and organizational skills ● Sense of humor ● Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus ● All candidates must meet the above minimum qualifications to be considered for the position Compensation: $50,000 annually; employer paid medical plan, discounted dental/wellness plan, 403(b), TransitChek
