Professor Hilary Weaver recently attended a forum, along with hundreds of members of the community, hosted by the Lancaster Central School District, to discuss the use of their mascot name. While no decisions were made by the school district at this meeting, group discussions occurred and opinions were shared. Before and after the forum, Weaver was interviewed and quoted by several news media, both local and national, including The New York Times. She finds "the nickname offensive and believed it was only a matter of time before Native American mascots at high schools became a thing of the past."
