Although those in recovery from alcoholism and many treatment professionals believe that spiritual and religious change are important in recovery from alcoholism, there has not been sufficient research investigating if this is indeed the case. This presentation will describe some findings from a longitudinal study of alcoholics on their spirituality and religiousness and whether spiritual and/or religious change is associated with subsequent reduced drinking, after controlling for involvement in Alcoholics Anonymous and demographic variables.
