Job Description: Program Overview The Environmental Justice Corps is a workforce development program funded by the Buffalo Sewer Authority and operated in partnership with the Buffalo Center for Health Equity (BCHE) and The Service Collaborative of Western New York (TSCWNY). We engage Opportunity Youth to transform their lives through 1) education in stormwater management; 2) interpersonal & leadership development; 3) community & civic engagement. Members are enrolled in full-time AmeriCorps service during a rigorous combination of volunteer service-learning, training, and social justice awareness. Corps Members develop and practice essential workforce skills, including time management, conflict resolution, accountability, teamwork, leadership, and networking. Individuals receive the individual care and support they need to secure career-track employment, pursue post-secondary education, and/or enroll in additional national service. Position Summary The Workforce Care Coordinator will report to the Workforce Development Manager and collaborate with BCHE staff and organization partners to operate the Environmental Justice Corps. They will have a lead role to identify, facilitate and provide care coordination of supportive services, as well as weekly case management for Corps Members, including but not limited to, referrals to community-based resources, to remove barriers from participation and improve their wellbeing and holistic development. They will work closely with each individual as they prepare for careers in government, nonprofit, trades, and corporate sectors. Essential Functions • Plan, establish, coordinate, manage and document accurate care plans while establishing measurable goals. • Establish and maintain regular meetings with the Crew to assess, monitor and evaluate their current condition, needs, strengths and barriers. • Implement crisis intervention, offer information and counsel when necessary to ensure success and safety during term of service; Work with Crew Foreman to monitor performance and work readiness. • Deliver topics addressing Social Determinants of Health, leadership, and interpersonal skill development. • Participate in program outreach, recruitment. • Attend staff meetings and professional development training; Performing other duties and responsibilities, as needed.
Required Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree with 6 years’ experience in human services, psychology, social work, education, or related fields.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience: • 3 years’ experience with Opportunity Youth, vocational education and/or youth workforce development. • Experience in presentation, facilitation, and experience in Google suite and/ or Microsoft 365. • Experience in case management, data collection and tracking. • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and the advancement of urban youth. • Ability to motivate and guide disconnected and disengaged youth and diffuse conflicts. • Ability to adapt plans and be flexible on short notice and take initiative to problem-solve. • First Aid/CPR Certificate and OSHA-10 certified within one month of hire. • Ability to foster positive relationships and communicate effectively with diverse partners. • Experience with or deep knowledge of the impacts of poverty and socio-economic inequity strongly preferred.
Rate of Pay: $45,000-$51,000
