Job Description: The primary role of the Advocate involves providing appropriate screening, referrals, and education to survivors of crime who have experienced physical trauma while being exploited. As most of these injuries and/or exposure to health risks go untreated, survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking are in need of appropriate screening and referrals to trauma-informed medical practitioners. In addition, survivors may have been prevented from seeking preventive and regular medical care, the Advocate will also assist in making appropriate referrals and providing education to survivors, many of whom have not received any prior medical information regarding self-care and services. Additionally, many survivors arrive to IIB seeking alternative treatments to address various types of trauma such as yoga, reiki, meditation, mindfulness, etc. The Advocate will seek new partnerships for survivors and staff to utilize in seeking long-term healing and wellness. The positions is new and therefore, IIB is seeking a self-starter who is passionate about program development and implementation for this exciting and innovative response to service gaps.
Required Qualifications: Education: MS/MA in the social work, public health or human services area required. Experience: Experience in providing direct human services is required. Experience serving victims of violence and/or trauma is required. Experience in the area of cultural competency is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications: -Ability to work effectively in crisis situations -Enthusiasm for creating social change -Training/Experience with mindfulness work -Knowledge of the criminal justice and/or family court systems -Enjoy being part of and contributing to a team dedicated to human rights-based work -Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal and organizational skills, including effective time management -Flexible schedule to meet client safety needs -Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting and communicate with a clients from a variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds and lifestyles -Must adhere to the Social Worker’s Code of Professional Ethics -Current valid driver’s license, and access to own transportation -Ability to meet short timelines, under pressure
