Trauma-Informed Supervision

This training is for all types of supervisors (administrative, supportive, clinical, etc.) who want to be trauma-informed in their interactions with staff.

About Trauma-Informed Supervision

Trauma-Informed Supervision Microcredential Badge.

Participants will explore an 8 component framework for trauma-informed supervision, which includes discussion of how trauma impacts the brain and behavior in the workplace, re-traumatization, the impact of the current events (i.e., racial/civil unrest, inequity, etc.), and how the trauma-informed values of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment can be used by supervisors to “neutralize the workplace environment,” promote diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA), and support wellness and productivity of the workforce. Further, the possible “impacts of the work” (e.g., secondary trauma, vicarious trauma, burnout, moral distress, decision fatigue), how to support oneself and the workforce to promote resilience and growth and considering culturally-sensitive responses in supervision will be explored.

Requirements

Participants are required to be affiliated with an organization that has an active contract with ITTIC for the trauma-informed supervision training, whether completing this micro-credential virtually (synchronously over Zoom) or in person. All participants will be required to attend all 12 hours of training, and complete all assessments in order to be eligible for the micro-credential.

Additional Required Activities/Assignments

Learners will develop a trauma-informed supervision action plan, demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of the eight components of trauma-informed supervision. The action plan will consist of learners identifying two of the eight components that they want to implement in their work and describing actionable steps they will take within each. Learners can submit their evidence via a written document or by recording a short video presenting in PowerPoint (less than 10 minutes). This will be evaluated utilizing a rubric by a team of reviewers at the Institute on Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care.
