An MSW from the University at Buffalo can lead you to a variety of career opportunities working with and on behalf of vulnerable, oppressed and marginalized populations. Our program reflects the breadth of what social work can offer — and will prepare you to make a difference.
As an MSW student at UB, you will:
- Learn how to create safe spaces and establish trust with clients — and ultimately become a trauma-informed social work practitioner — with a curriculum that's grounded in trauma-informed and human rights perspectives
- Find where you fit in the social work profession through small class sizes with expert faculty who represent the breadth of practice areas out in the field
- Explore the topics and populations you're interested in through advanced courses and electives
- Gain hands-on experience and professional connections, thanks to field placement partnerships in settings like schools, clinical agencies, hospitals and medical practices, community organizations, policy/advocacy groups and research centers
- Get involved with issues you're passionate about and create lifelong friendships during extracurricular opportunities
