UB professor, alumna publish chapter on intersectionality and immigrant and refugee trauma

Congratulations to Filomena Critelli, PhD, associate professor in the University at Buffalo School of Social Work, and alumna Asli Cennet Yalim, PhD ’19, assistant professor in the University of Central Florida School of Social Work, on publishing a chapter in the Research Handbook on Intersectionality. Their chapter is titled, "Intersectionality and immigrant and refugee trauma."

This chapter provides insights into how intersectionality theory can be applied within research to better understand immigrants and refugee trauma in its complexity and provide rich, layered examinations of immigrant and refugee experiences. Research using an intersectional framework has the potential to highlight oppression as well as emancipation, reveal the systematic discrimination in refugee and migration policies and systems, point to disparities in accessing durable solutions and social supports, and challenge rigid labels and categories.
