Flame Bearers, a podcast about women Olympians and Paralympians, interviewed Mickey Sperlich, assistant professor in the School of Social Work, for an episode about gold medalist Deja Young-Craddock and her mental health challenges, including after the birth of her daughter.
“What I study looks at the effects of having had prior traumatic exposures, and how this can lead to post-traumatic stress in pregnancy or birth or the postpartum period,” Sperlich said. "I think, overall, when people say they had ‘postpartum’ they mean they had depression, basically, following their birth experiences."
