Social Work Advocates, the magazine of the National Association of Social Workers, published an excerpt from a UB story about the School of Social Work’s course on animal-assisted social work, taught by adjunct instructor and NASW-New York member Rachel Zielinski, BA/MSW ’08.

Zielinski integrates her certified therapy dog Maxwell into both her private practice and the course. “All people can benefit from therapy animals,” Zielinski says in the article. “Maxwell is great for grounding when clients get really activated or have a high level of anxiety. He can be helpful for teens or people with autism. Some clients even see us as a team together, so it reduces anxiety for clients who count on him being there for sessions.”
