Axios interviewed Elizabeth Bowen, associate professor in the School of Social Work, about President Trump proclaiming that he’s going to crack down on homeless populations and encampments. Bowen said that clearing encampments is not an effective way to resolve homelessness.
“It’s not a solution at all to ending homelessness,” Bowen said. “The solution is getting people into long-term, permanent, affordable, independent, supportive housing.” Bowen also pointed out that the Trump administration has proposed gutting aid for permanent supportive housing, which she says is a step in the wrong direction.
