Spectrum News 1 interviewed Elizabeth Bowen, associate professor in the School of Social Work and an expert on homelessness, about how homelessness can look different in rural communities, where shelters, transportation, treatment and affordable housing may be harder to access.

“Homelessness is not contained only to cities or only to any one type of community,” Bowen said. She also discussed the relationship between homelessness and substance use, stressing that “homelessness and addiction can certainly be co-occurring issues.”
