Laura Greyber, PhD '14, MSW '07

When Laura Greyber decided to pursue a graduate education in social work, the UBSSW proved to be an ideal match. “I was attending UB for my undergraduate degree in psychology and really felt that the educational and growth opportunities within this system had allowed me to flourish, both personally and professionally,” recalls Greyber. “I wanted to continue to grow and participate in as many ‘in the field’ applied research and practice activities as possible. UBSSW offers a variety of opportunities to do that.”  

“Throughout my PhD, I have had the opportunity to work with the Hillside Family of Agencies. Initially, I would conduct literature reviews for research and evaluation projects for the agency. Over time, my role at Hillside Family of Agencies grew and I was able to directly participate in research studies, the Institutional Review Board, and had many opportunities to work within and across different services and programs within the system of care,” says Greyber of her evolving professional experiences in the field through the School.

With an affinity toward helping children and adolescents, Greyber’s professional and academic careers have blossomed throughout her doctoral program. In addition to teaching several sections of advanced standing research methods and supervising a selection of field placements, her dissertation, “A Quasi-Experimental Study of a Health and Wellness Group Intervention for Adolescents in Residential Treatment Facilities (RTFs) and Examination of Risk Factors as Treatment Success Predictors,” focuses on the population that commands her professional passion.
