BUFFALO, N.Y. — Susan A. Green, LCSW, clinical professor in the University at Buffalo School of Social Work, has been named to the Fulbright Specialist Roster for a three-year tenure.
Part of the larger Fulbright program from the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright Specialist program pairs highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share their expertise, strengthen international ties and help host institutions build capacity.
With her selection to the competitive Fulbright Specialist Roster, Green can now be matched with short-term projects at institutions in more than 150 countries around the globe.
An expert on trauma-informed care, Green is co-director of the School of Social Work’s Institute on Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care (ITTIC). She is the principal investigator on multiple grant projects focused on implementing trauma-informed approaches in organizations and systems of care. In addition, Green is a contributing author and presenter for many peer-reviewed, trauma-related publications and presentations.
“Honestly, I have no words,” Green says of being chosen for the Roster. “I feel so grateful that we have this opportunity for ITTIC to make a significant impact beyond Western New York.”
ITTIC collaborates with agencies and organizations to provide training, consultation and coaching services on trauma and trauma-informed approaches. Founded in 2012, ITTIC also offers micro-credentials, continuing education modules and a free Trauma-Informed Organizational Change Manual, which has been downloaded more than 16,000 times since its release in 2019.
With her appointment to the Fulbright Specialist Roster, Green hopes to take her expertise and ITTIC’s work global.
“Trauma exists everywhere,” Green says. “At ITTIC, we have the knowledge and experience to take stated and emerging evidence of trauma, and how to effectively respond to it, and help people at all levels of service delivery, from direct service workers to leaders of entire systems.
“I can bring everything we do at ITTIC into these engagement opportunities — providing foundational training, promoting trauma-sensitive practices, building trauma-informed organizations, and more.”
