Abstract

The Grand Challenges for Social Work created by the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare (AASWSW) offer many opportunities for the social work profession to solve wide-reaching societal problems. Each challenge calls for the social work profession to propose solutions from research, practice, and policy perspectives. The grand challenge to “advance long and productive lives” is rooted in ensuring that individuals engage in learning, civic engagement, and labor activities at each stage of life. Engagement in education and work is important because it fosters a sense of vitality, well-being, and productivity that enriches our communities (AASWSW, 2020).
