The UB School of Social Work, in partnership with Erie County Department of Social Services (ECDSS), was awarded a grant through the Children’s Bureau and the National Child Welfare Workforce Institute (NCWWI), as one of 7 Workforce Excellence sites across the U.S. 

Kudos to Assistant Professor Maria Y. Rodriguez and colleagues on the publication of their article, "Community outreach, fundraising, and social transformation: the functions of social media platforms to prevent dating abuse in domestic violence and sexual assault organizations" in the Journal of Community Practice's special edition, Digital Organizing: Definitions, Applications, Methods and Ethics, which was co-edited by Rodriguez as well.

Kudos to Associate Professor Yunju Nam, PhD student Sarah Richards-Desai and their colleague on the publication of their article, "Household language barriers, community language resources, and asset ownership among immigrants and refugees in Western New York: A mixed-methods study" in Families in Society.

Kudos to Assistant Professor Noelle St. Vil, Assistant Professor Mickey Sperlich, PhD student Erin Bascug, and their colleagues on the publication of their article, "'I thought it was normal:' Perspectives of Black nursing students from high-risk IPV communities on causes and solutions to IPV in the Black community" in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence.

Congratulations to Dean Emeritus Lawrence Shulman on the publication of his chapter, "Interactional supervision: Shifting the guiding paradigm" in Routledge international handbook of social work supervision.

Kudos to Assistant Professor Maria Y. Rodriguez and colleagues on the publication of a special issue of the Journal of Community Practice, which they co-edited, entitled "Digital Organizing: Definitions, Applications, Methods and Ethics."

Two members of the UBSSW family received Advancing Social Change Through Community Practice (ACOSA) doctoral student awards. Kudos to Josal Diebold, MSW ’18, a current PhD Candidate at UB, and Greer A. Hamilton, MSW ’16, currently a PhD student at Boston University, who were honored for their meritorious scholarship in the field of community practice. 

Diebold’s research is intimately tied to her volunteer work with Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), a national organization committed to organizing and mobilizing white people into Black-led multi-racial movements for racial and economic justice. 

Kudos to Assistant Professor Mickey Sperlich, Associate Professor Patricia Logan-Greene and their colleague on the publication of their article, "If not us, then who?: Frontline social worker' perspectives on gun violence" in the Journal of Evidence-Based Social Work.

Kudos to Instructional Support Specialist Steven Sturman, Assistant Professor Mickey Sperlich, Clinical Associate Professor Louanne Bakk, and ITTIC Project Manager Samantha Koury on the publication of their article, "Development of an Immersive Virtual Reality Learning Environment: Integrating Trauma-Informed Principles into Human Service Agency Settings" in the Journal of Technology in Human Services.

Kudos to Professor Paul Stasiewicz and his colleagues on the publication of their article, "Do schizotypy features predict cannabis problems in partnered community adults?" in Addictive Behaviors.

Associate Professor Wooksoo Kim, Director of Immigrant and Refugee Research Institute. has been named a Brain Korea Global Visiting Fellow at Seoul National University (SNU) College of Nursing. Kim will spend two months conducting collaborative research while hosting seminars with faculty and graduate students from SNU.

Kudos to PhD student Hannah Ginn and her colleague on the publication of their article, "Disability and Sexuality: Toward a focus on sexuality education in Ghana" in Sexuality and Disability.
