This course is aimed at integrating current technologies used by client populations into clinical social work practice. The course is designed for MSW students and mental health practitioners. Students will explore the impact of technology, in its many forms, on human beings in the social environment, the opportunities and risks it presents in clinical social work practice, and how to understand and use technology professionally to improve clinical social work practice. Topics addressed will include use of social media; the question of internet addiction; video games and gamification; online therapies; electronic health records; and use of emergent technologies for clinical practice with individuals, groups and larger systems.
