Margaret O Donoghue, Ph.D., LCSW, Associate Professor at Rutgers SSW, will present: White Mothers Navigating the Parenting of Children of Color. This presentation will focus on the psychological and social adjustment, challenges, and impacts of White women who must navigate racial and historical stresses impacting their parenting. Dr. O'Donoghue will share her examination of how White parents gain competence in exploring and integrating difficult topics, including historical and current structural inequities, trauma, racism, and discrimination. She will engage participants in an exploration of how White mothers affirm the identity of their child/teen and prepare them to face an often-hostile world.
