School social workers are trained mental health professionals with a degree in social work who provide services related to a person’s social, emotional and life adjustment to school or society. School social workers are the link between the home, school and community in providing both direct and indirect services to students, families and school personnel to promote and support students’ academic and social success.

Associate Professor Annahita Ball and several local school districts developed the Challenge 2 Change summit. This was a successful vehicle for high school students to responsibly and respectfully discuss difficult issues in an emotionally safe environment. Graduate student volunteers from the School of Social Work facilitated small group dialogue with high school students on the issues of diversity, privilege and oppression.
