MBA/MSW Dual Degree

An excited group of Social Impact Fellows on UB North Campus.

2019 Social Impact Fellows at the Pitch for a Cause competition.

Through our MBA/MSW program, you’ll apply managerial and economic principles to social work practice. It’s how our graduates lead highly effective service agencies and create new programs and policies.

Our curriculum statement articulates our commitment to the promotion of social justice, the protection of human rights and the necessity of addressing structural oppression and inequities in power and resources.

MBA/MSW Dual Degree Program Details

This collaborative program between the School of Management and the School of Social Work leads to both an MBA and MSW and reduces the time and credits compared to completing the programs separately. While there is a reduction in total credit hours for the dual degree program, you must meet all other requirements for both degree programs.

We offer two MBA/MSW programs: Traditional and Advanced Standing.

Both MBA/MSW course of study options are full-time and on-campus only and incorporate our signature trauma-informed and human rights perspectives.

Traditional Advanced Standing

Traditional MBA/MSW Program

  • For students with a bachelor's degree in any undergraduate major
  • 900 total practicum hours (420-hour foundation practicum + 480-hour advanced year practicum)
  • 120 total credits
  • Full time (3 years) and on campus only
  • Students can begin the program in either school

This curriculum is effective fall 2024. If you started your MSW program prior to fall 2024, please follow the curriculum listed in the Student Handbook for the year in which you began your program.

As of fall 2025, field education is now known as practicum education in the School of Social Work. However, you may still see references to “field education” in course titles, documents and other dated web content.

MBA/MSW Tuition Structure

MBA/MSW students will be billed the full-time MBA tuition rate during the semesters they are only taking MBA courses, and the full-time MSW rate when they are only taking  MSW courses.

During the semesters in which students take coursework from both departments, the full-time tuition rate of the school in which the student has registered for the majority of their credits will be used.
