Clinical Course List

As you plan your MSW course schedule, review the list below to determine the courses that satisfy the 12-credit minimum clinical requirement for the Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) exam.

Our MSW program is registered with the New York State Office of Professions, and your earned MSW degree automatically qualifies you to sit for the Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) exam. In addition to the LMSW exam, master’s level practitioners who have 12 credits of clinical course content, with at least one course in each the three categories below, and meet other requirements such as the required number of hours of supervision by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) may sit for their LCSW exam. It is important to note that it is illegal to practice social work in New York State without a license.

This page includes current courses and historical offerings and is based on current New York State requirements, which are subject to change. It will be updated as needed to best reflect NYS licensure requirements. If you have questions regarding the courses needed for licensure, email swinfo@buffalo.edu
