Objective: Engage in policy practice

[TI-HR] = Trauma-Informed and Human Rights perspective

  1. Describes the relation of the field placement to the organizations in the community and identifies the range of relevant services (formal and informal) available in the community
  2. Review agency handbook, focusing on philosophy statement, administrative and treatment policies; explore their relevance for service delivery in supervision.
  3. Identify commonly used referral agencies. Become familiar with services of these agencies and appropriate referral policies and procedures.
  4. Demonstrates understanding of the ways services are used for referrals and service delivery coordination by the field placement site.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of relevant city, state and federal social policies and programs that affect services to clients.
  6. Attend local governmental hearings which allocate funds for agency discuss relevant aspects in supervision.
  7. Interview staff members involved in various agency programs to gain an understanding of client service. Discuss these programs and their theoretical approach with field educator.
  8. Attend agency meeting(s), then identify and discuss with field educator the theoretical frameworks from SW 506 that are applicable to the field education setting.
  9. [TI-HR] Identify and discuss cultural issues and issues of disparity regarding trauma for all populations including refugees, racial and ethic minorities and rural populations and with concern for gender age and developmental phase over the life span.
  10. Read 2 articles about the special needs of the target population of the organization. Discuss with field educator approaches to engaging with this population.
  11. [TI-HR] Read organization's staff handbook/policy and procedure manual. Discuss with field educator the effect of organization's policies/procedures on delivery of services to clients.
  12. [TI-HR] Engages in practices that advance social and economic justice. Explore in supervision.
  13. Assess the formal and informal communication networks within the agency. Discuss in supervision.
  14. Student will attend board of directors meeting and demonstrate an understanding of the organizational structure of agency.
  15. Contact county or state legislators on key issues impacting client groups.
  16. Compile a list of federal, state and local officials serving on key legislative committees.
  17. Remain current in knowledge of laws/policies which impact agency and/or client system (ex: current events and news in the community, reading newspapers or local journals, etc.).
  18. Identify the key staff within the organization who are responsible for policy development and implementation. Discuss with field educator and relate to macro and micro systems.
  19. Student will review the agency organizational chart and mission statement and discuss in supervision.
  20. Apply information regarding local, state and federal legislation as it relates to current and past changes in the field agency/organization. Discuss with field educator.
